Foods for healthy-looking skin
For many of us, January is the time of year when we take the most care of ourselves. It is the month of diets and exercise. At Herbera, we don't want you to forget about your skin. Skin beauty is directly related to your diet, so let's review some foods that you shouldn't miss out on for healthy-looking skin.
Citrus fruits
There are many varieties, but the best known are oranges, lemons, tangerines, grapefruit, and limes. Consuming them is a very easy way to obtain the concentrations of vitamins A, B1, B2, and C, potassium, copper, and sulfur that our body needs to function properly. The vitamins and essential oils in citrus fruits are excellent for cleansing, hydrating, and beautifying our skin. In addition, vitamin C is essential for the production of collagen, which is the key protein for firm, healthy skin.
Pomegranate
Pomegranate is rich in potassium and provides considerable amounts of magnesium, phosphorus, and iron. It contains vitamins C, B1, and B2. But the compounds with the greatest nutritional and functional interest present in the pomegranate are polyphenols. Thanks to them, pomegranate has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anti-aging properties.
Avocado
It has a high content of vitamins E and C. The former helps delay the aging process and the latter provides you with collagen, in addition to monounsaturated fats, which protect the body from aging. As if that were not enough, avocado helps to maintain skin moisture.
Tomato
This red-colored fruit, in addition to being rich in antioxidants, has large amounts of vitamin C, which, as mentioned above, helps in collagen production. It also contains vitamins A, B, E, and K.
Broccoli
Well known to everyone thanks to its anti-cancer effects, broccoli is also a source of vitamins A, C, and E, not to mention monounsaturated fats, which are natural moisturizers for your skin and delay aging.
Kale
This cousin of broccoli has its own varieties: curly leaf kale, flat leaf kale (a bit more bitter), Russian red kale, Tuscan kale, dinosaur kale. All have in common that special green color, crisp and fibrous leaves, as well as a unique flavor. And for our skin, great properties: it is alkaline, anti-inflammatory, and an antioxidant.
Ginger
Ginger is a plant native to India and China that has spread throughout the world thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties and its great supply of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids, which promote the health of your skin.
Green tea
This trendy beverage, whether hot or cold, has a high vitamin E content, and above all, it is an antioxidant. What is its function? It reduces skin inflammation, protects cell membranes, and reduces damage from sunburn.
Walnuts
They are highly rich in selenium and magnesium, minerals whose antioxidant effects are important for protecting the skin against external damage such as ultraviolet radiation, which causes aging. They also help you keep your immune system healthy and avoid diseases such as psoriasis or atopic dermatitis.
Blueberries
This fruit is one of the foods with the highest amount of antioxidants and, like all red berries, it promotes circulation. This makes your skin look younger for longer and prevents dreaded cellulite.
Dark chocolate
Good news: It's not all going to be fruits and vegetables; dark chocolate can also be your great ally! It helps you moisturize your skin and reduce redness and roughness. In addition, the cocoa flavonoids present in dark chocolate help you combat lack of sleep, fatigue, and the effects of aging.
Our recommendation: remember that an organic diet is healthier since it is free of toxic residues from pesticides, antibiotics, synthetic fertilizers, additives, and preservatives, many of which are used in conventional agriculture to eliminate insects or pests. Since they do not contain artificial substances, foods from organic farming are assimilated correctly by the body without altering metabolic functions, just like all our cosmetics.
We hope that good habits and dietary care last beyond the month of January and that you keep it in mind all year long... Will you join us?
