What is rosacea?

Rosacea is a skin condition that manifests in people between 30 and 40 years of age. It is characterized by facial redness, burning, congestion, and the appearance of pustules, which have sometimes caused rosacea to be confused with acne.

Causes of rosacea:

  • Genetics.
  • Possible link to the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in the stomach. For this reason, rosacea improves after treatment with antibiotics such as metronidazole.
  • B-complex vitamin deficiency.
  • Hydrochloric acid deficiency in the stomach.

People who suffer from rosacea, in addition to a continuous sensation of itching and burning, often present symptoms related to the eyes, such as small bumps on the eyelids. Sometimes, corneal alterations occur, although none of these ocular symptoms are dangerous.

Tips for treating rosacea:

  1. Keep a food diary of the foods you eat each day to help you identify the cause of rosacea flare-ups. Keep in mind that a flare-up can take up to 24 hours to be triggered. When you have identified a suspicious food, stop eating it for about 3 months... and see what happens. Some dietary triggers are: strong spices (peppers and cayenne), marinated meat, strong cheeses, vinegar, Chinese food, soy sauce, chocolate, wheat, sugar, and dairy products.
  2. Eliminate yeast (remove bread and other sweets made with yeast from your diet, since long-term use of antibiotics decreases the normal bacterial population and increases the number of yeast; this will help recover the body's natural bacterial flora).
  3. Eat leafy green vegetables such as chard or spinach, as they have many vitamins A and C, bioflavonoids, and beta-carotenes, which increase the resistance of blood capillaries.
  4. Vitamin E and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are found in flax seeds and fish oils, contribute to healing and skin regeneration.
  5. Do not use cosmetics or personal hygiene products that contain alcohol, peppermint, menthol, eucalyptus, clove oil, glycols such as propylene glycol or butylene glycol, triethanolamine, certain corticosteroids, or alpha-hydroxy acids at concentrations higher than 10%. Depending on their concentration, they are often highly irritating and become an aggravating factor for the skin manifestations of hypersensitive skin.
  6. Avoid physical peels (scrubs or gommages).
  7. Prepare a chamomile infusion, let it cool, and when ready, moisten a gauze pad and cover your face with it; you will see how the congestion is relieved.
  8. Green tea is another ally for soothing rosacea. Prepare a compress with it (just like with the chamomile) and apply it to the affected area. You can put the infusion in the fridge beforehand so that the compress is cooler. You will feel even more relief.
  9. Do not use soaps on your face; instead, purchase micellar waters that cleanse without irritating the skin.
  10. Use facial moisturizing creams without perfumes or essential oils. Jojoba, rosehip, calendula, and olive oils are very appropriate for treating rosacea due to their soothing, emollient, and healing properties.
  11. Use vegetable toners with extracts rich in flavonoids to decongest the skin and strengthen the facial blood capillaries.
  12. You can try using gentle natural makeup with adequate coverage to mattify the skin of the face.
  13. Practice yoga to reduce stress.
  14. Don't forget to apply your sunscreen and wear hats; in summer, besides protecting you from the sun, they will look great on you.
  15. Each person is different, so consult your doctor to advise you on which treatment is most appropriate for you.

When you change the way you think, you change your life.
